Why apprenticeships make sense for youngsters and businesses
We are very excited to announce our latest news - we’re looking for an apprentice to start working in our busy team at Fiveways Insurance in Newport.
Apprenticeships offer young people the opportunity to continue their learning and development whilst employed in a role that they are looking to develop into a career.
They are fast becoming the norm for young people who want to build a career without building up a lot of higher education debt before they start on the ladder.
According to Government statistics, in 2015/16, there were 509,400 apprenticeship starts in England - 9,500 more than the previous year.
Almost three quarters (71%) of all starts were concentrated in three sectors: Business, Administration & Law; Health, Public Services & Care and Retail & Commercial Enterprise.
We really pride ourselves on giving young people a chance to succeed. Our apprentice will undertake a Business Administration apprenticeship as well as receiving on-the-job training.
We are also keen that our staff undertake professional qualifications and so in addition to the apprenticeship programme we will enrol the candidate on our Chartered Insurance Institute professional qualification course, at the end of which the young person will be qualified and entitled to use the ‘Cert CII’ qualification designation after their name.
It will be very demanding work for our new apprentice but we find working on the job is the best way to learn valuable skills and insight into how we offer the best levels of customer service and advice that we can.
Nigel West, managing director of Fiveways, says: “The best kind of learning is done in the workplace and we will be looking to employ someone who is enthusiastic and willing to learn and develop at a fast pace.
“The insurance industry can provide a fantastic career, and we like to think that Fiveways - now in its 50th year of business - is a great company to work for. We are a family-run firm and a really friendly team.”
